September 2008
President’s Podium
Dear Fellow MOM’s,
I love being busy, especially with my family, but I am not at all fond of how my chaos somehow makes the Earth spin a little faster. I am finding that this is the only downside to having twins – blinking my eyes and suddenly seeing them 3 inches taller. Just yesterday they were sharing a bassinette, and now this month they’ll be entering a great big school building as Kindergarteners. Let’s not forget about my daughter beginning her senior year at high school this month. I dare not blink my eyes again for fear of suddenly finding myself packing up her things for a college dorm. Oh me-Oh my. :o(
Because of the nature of life’s relationship to time, we need to be appreciative of every moment, savoring each one and allowing them to sear themselves permanently in our mind’s eye for future enjoyment. Have you ever seen an elderly person with that twinkle in their eyes? My guess is that they are pulling up these memories one by one, always generously sharing the tales with us of the best times of their life. Well, THESE ARE THE BEST TIMES OF OUR LIVES!! This is it! Let September’s seemingly early arrival be a reminder to all of us to appreciate, live, laugh and savor each other, our spouses and our children. Joy is a choice – choose joy.
What better way to celebrate our families then by attending the family picnic this month at Mary Elizabeth’s house! Pack your favorite snacks and a beach blanket and join up with your club friends and their families. There are many fun surprises in store, not to mention another opportunity for you to make a wonderful, new memory for you and your family. Add it to the many you’ve already stored to the hard drive in your head.
Colleen and Lina bring us an apropos Program this month. Join us at the General Meeting on the 16th to hear Dr. Henig teach us how to “Discipline Without Yelling”. Every last one of us can relate to losing it here and there, I’m sure. Why do you think we needed a support group to begin with? Make a point to attend – at the very least; you’ll get a cup of coffee, a cookie and some company for an hour – who can beat that?
The Board Meeting is on the 30th, which falls on night two of Rosh Hashanah but enough reps from each position will be in attendance so we kept the date. Even though it is called a “board meeting”, all are welcome to attend. Grab a snack from the refreshment table and get a glimpse of what our volunteers are doing to keep this club rolling along in its 48th year.
Thank you all for your responses to my mass e-mail regarding open positions, but we still have many to fill. Call me for a briefing of what’s still open and what each would require of you. None of them require a lot of time but they do require you to be a friend to someone reaching out. Not only can you do that – I’m almost certain you need that for yourself.
Listen, we may not have it together, but together we have it all. Be a bigger part of the team.
Here’s to a healthy, happy and safe school year for our children and a year of more rest for our moms of infants & toddlers. :o)
Peace, Love & Twins,
Mary Grace Roach
