President’s Podium

Hello dear members and Happy Valentine’s Day!  This is the month to secure some kind of sitter for your children so that in addition to attending our fabulous meeting, you and your spouse can go out, have a glass of wine, hold hands, eat a lovely dinner and have some nice quiet, peaceful adult conversation.  Or maybe you’ll be so shell-shocked that your mouths will be agape as you take in the awesome wonder of life outside the four walls of your home.

My first Valentine’s Day outing since the arrival of the twins was like walking out into the bright sunlight after being in a cave for months.  I also liken the feeling to  race horses preparing to burst through the gates and tear down the tracks.  My husband was taking me to Per Un Angelo that evening, an Italian restaurant in Wantagh.  When we finally got there, I think I ordered my first glass of Chardonnay from the coat check.  I was happy to be out!  :o)

You might be the nervous, reluctant type, worried that no one else will be able to care for your children as good as you do.  You’re probably right.  But - the harsh reality is that the children will be just fine even as the schedule isn’t adhered to exactly and Grandma sings to the babies instead of patting their little bottoms as you usually do.  I would even put money on the fact that because of all this “baby chaos” at home over the last several months, your relationship could probably use a fresh “shellacking” right about now.  Those babies are wondrous, yes, but things with you and hubby can probably get a little frayed around the edges.  You owe it to your spouse, to yourself and to your children to go out, guilt-free, and try to get in touch with yourself again.

Our Membership Committee has really outdone themselves.  I am grateful and proud to have these women as part of our team.  Besides the breastfeeding support group they’ve begun and the great articles submitted to Twin-Sphere on how to meet other members, they also regularly host New Member Socials at each other’s homes.  If you haven’t already attended one of these, you may want to treat yourself.  There happens to be one this month – February 6, look further in this newsletter for details.

Another date to set aside is Tuesday, February 17, when at 7:30 we’ll meet for our General Meeting.  Along with the consumption of sweet treats we will have guided discussion groups including answering any questions moms may want to pose to the other members.  It could be anything from how to treat formula stains to dealing with binky withdrawal – JUST COME - ask a question, seek a friend, share a funny story or be there as a big sister to the newer moms who have joined for this very reason…support.

Our next Board Meeting is on the 24th.  This may not interest you but if it does you are certainly welcome to join us.  This is where all of our volunteers gather to go over planning, budgets and new ideas, it’s usually quite interesting and you never know, you may meet a new friend.

I hope to see you at the General Meeting, but until then, get crackin’ on securing a sitter for your well deserved, much needed, romantic Valentine’s night out!

Peace, Love & Twins,

Mary Grace Roach
