December 2008
President’s Podium
What’s your choice? “Bah! Hum Bug!!” or “Good will and cheer!!”? Sometimes the line between our being positive and negative can be faint and nondescript. Take this busy time of year as a case in point. Depending upon my frame of mind and current circumstances, the holidays can either serve as a time of spiritual epiphany and love of family or be the slow but sure cause of me completely unraveling. Things are either great or they’re not. I’m either Wonder Woman, loving and patient, getting all things done in plenty of time or I am Anxiety Woman, yelling, screaming, rushing, compiling long “To Do” lists but not getting many things completed. Wonder Woman has been known to start up a neighborhood caroling group or deliver homemade muffins to an elderly shut-in on Christmas morning. Anxiety Woman is busy, overwhelmed and forgetful, and eventually collapses on the floor in a useless heap of hysterics. My poor husband is never sure which wife he’ll get at the start of all the hustling and bustling. God bless him.
What I have learned is that it isn’t my frame of mind or circumstances at all that decide which “Woman” I will be for the holidays, or day to day for that matter. The question actually is: Who do I CHOOSE to be? Circumstances and ups and downs are a part of life and part of being human – they will always be there. How will I decide to react to these things in my life? It’s important to remember too that our decision not only affects our own well being but also the well being of all those around us…including our spouse and our children.
Whoever you feel you are at this time, know that you have the support of this club. Many of its members are struggling through the very same things as you. Help yourself get into the true spirit this year by taking advantage of some wonderful club events.
December 6th is the Children’s Holiday Party at our usual meeting place, the Parkway Community Church. There will be snacks and treats, decorations and crafts. Santa will make an appearance and give your children a gift. See the flyer on page . On December 16th the club is hosting a Holiday Dinner Party at Pompei Restaurant in West Hempstead. Come with your significant other, have a cup of good cheer and some delicious food while you enjoy the company of many other parents of twins and triplets who are also trying to balance their lives through all the highs and lows and ups and downs. Remember the Barbara Streisand song? ”People who need people, are the luckiest people in the world!”
May you and your beautiful family have a peaceful, loving, happy and holy holiday, and may we all remember that needing each other is a good thing, a right thing. We may not have it together, but together we have it all.
Peace, Love & Twins,
Mary Grace Roach
