President’s Podium
Dear MOM’s,
KA-BOOM goes the thunder right outside my window as I try to compose my very first President’s Podium. What are the heavens trying to tell me? I like to think they symbolize an exciting year ahead!
I have many feelings as I begin serving the NCMOTC as President…enthusiasm, excitement and some nervousness, but mostly I feel honored and privileged to have such an opportunity to give back to the very club that has given me so much.
Five years ago, I was an overwhelmed mother of newborn twins, and with a preteen already in tow, I found myself suddenly in trouble. I needed some kind of help and guidance and support. You may laugh, but the NCMOTC was literally an answer to a prayer. While my fraternal boys napped in their cribs, and my daughter was off to school, I quietly sipped my tea at my dining room table, dressed in the robe I’d worn everyday since the babies were born, and I began to cry. I prayed that God would help me. Even though for many years I longed for these children, I had somehow allowed exhaustion to mask my happy heart. God’s answer to me was an invitation back to a more regular prayer regimen AND to find a support group. On the third Tuesday of that very month – I descended those church stairs and attended my first Nassau County Mothers of Twins Club meeting.
So now, five years later, I am empowered and energized – confident, seasoned and grateful. I’ve thrown out “the robe” and am busy (VERY BUSY) living a satisfying and wonderfully chaotic life with more blessings than I can even begin to count. The women in this group have restored me – body and soul - and I’ve developed some very, deep, meaningful, and what I suspect to be, lifelong friendships. I want to thank you NCMOTC. It is my pleasure to take on this post and serve you.
July 15 was a memorable evening as 40 of us enjoyed a delicious sit-down dinner while our new officers were installed. The face of our Board has changed somewhat and I can already feel and hear everyone’s wheels turning. I am so looking forward to working with this group of talented volunteers. They are gems; each so gifted and unique.
I want to thank Theresa, who is not only our newly retired President but also a good friend to me. My hat is off to you, Theresa, for a job superbly done. You so faithfully, loyally and passionately ran our club and I, for one, thank you for your dedicated and committed service. I know you’ll be there to help me as I take my baby President steps…
Have we got a year for you! Read this Twin-Sphere from front to back – there’s sure to be something in it that sparks your interest. There are always so many fun things going on and we aim to please so pick something and support the ladies who work so hard on chairing these events. Coming up we’ve got Book Club on the 12th, the Lemonade Social on the19th and the Board Meeting on the 26th.
The book we’re reading now is “Change of Heart” by the very popular Jodi Picoult. I’ve read it, and IT’S REALLY GREAT so get it today and be ready for the 12th. Bring your favorite summer beverage (no MudSlides, please) and enjoy the company of a few really nice ladies.
The socials are an especially great way to just come out, relax, chat and meet some friends. If you’re an overwhelmed MOM and feeling depleted, I promise you will find some relief at our meetings. The social is a good starting point. Come. Look for me. I’ll give you a smile and a hug along with a plate of goodies and a glass of lemonade.
All are invited to the August Board meeting on the 26th. We’ll be going over our Treasurer, Diana proposed budget for the year. Sounds dreadful, I know, but a night out with this group of women is never dreadful, I promise you. Come. Have a cookie. Get a glimpse of what makes our club tick.
There are still many positions that need someone…someone like you. Please see me if you think you might want to look the list over. Most positions don’t take much time at all and you’ve got too much to gain – your new best friend could be waiting to meet you.
Have a great summer. I hope to see you at one of our club’s events, but in the
meantime, let’s enjoy our
kids!
Peace, Love & Twins,
Mary
