President’s Podium

Ahhhh…the promise of Spring.  Nature suddenly gives its signal and the Earth obediently sprouts forth such beauty.  The temperature warms and all sorts of wild creatures begin new families.  Everything that had seemingly ended, begins again, deadness, and now life.  Our seasons hold such powerful metaphors.

As the snow melts and the moist ground softens and thaws, we can take nature’s cue to begin again and start anew!  Looking at Spring as a ‘clean slate’ opportunity is a great way to let go of any mistakes or regrets we may be harboring and to not get hung up on counter-productive thinking.  Each day really can be the first day of the rest of our lives!!  I always favored that saying since it helps me to be forgiving and positive and encouraging to myself!.   Our jobs as mothers of twins and triplets is challenging enough, we don’t need any more bumps in the road than necessary, especially ones we place there ourselves!

This month, some of us will be headed to the Rochester area for this year’s New York State Mothers of Twins Convention.  I’m expecting a similar feeling of instant camaraderie upon entering our meeting place as I did when I descended our church stairs attending my first Nassau County meeting.  Gee, there’s mothers everywhere, as far as the eye can see, all having similar life experiences due to the blessing of multiple births – what a wonderful source of support for each and every one of us!  How beneficial it is for us to be connected to our State and National affiliates.  In my commitment to the Nassau County club I am vowing to learn more about what is available to us through our membership with State and National.  Ongoing reports to follow…

Our twice-a-year tag sale takes place this month at our General Meeting on the 21st.  Either man a table to sell your own stuff or come to get some great bargains!  It’s a great way to pick up an extra set of swim suits, denim pants, spring jackets, or books and toys for your children and all items are sporting very affordable price tags.  That’s a welcomed sight for me since I am always looking for new ways to stretch my dollars a little farther.

Which brings me to my suspicion that since we are all sort of adjusting to this downturned economy, I thought it a good idea to begin pooling our ideas together for ways to save.  Send any and all ideas to our TwinSphere team so all members can benefit.  One idea I had was to forego renewing pricey gym memberships and instead meet at the boardwalk for regular walks.  We can also give each other a head’s up on great coupons or sales we stumble upon while out and about.  This club is all about lending an ear, an arm, a voice, to one another in solidarity and support.

Another way to give is by volunteering for a club position.  Believe me when I tell you that most positions do NOT require a lot of time, just a caring heart and a desire to help a fellow overwhelmed, lonely mom or two.  Our elections aren’t until June, but we need to take an inventory now of which positions will most likely be filled and which will be in need of a volunteer.  You’ll find in this issue a list of positions and their descriptions.  PLEASE consider stepping up and trying a position since the NCMOTC wouldn’t be what it is without volunteers.  All of the faces you have become familiar with are just regular moms - moms like you.  We found this club and drew strength from it and now we gain strength and support from the friendships we’ve formed THROUGH our VOLUNTEERING.

It’s Spring.  It’s a new beginning.  There are lots of new opportunities and ways to restore new life back into our weary, Winter selves.  Let’s do it together and help others in the process!
